Future Value (FV)

✓ Last verified 14 Sep 2026
The short version Future Value is what an amount invested today will grow into by a future date, at an assumed rate of return - the mirror image of Present Value.

₹1,00,000 invested today at 10% a year has a Future Value of roughly ₹1,61,000 after 5 years - it's the same compounding math used throughout this app's own calculators, just named explicitly. Future Value answers 'what will this be worth later?', while Present Value answers the reverse question, 'what is a later amount worth now?' Both rely on the same two inputs - an assumed rate of return and a time period - which is also why both are only as reliable as the assumption behind them; a small change in assumed rate compounds into a meaningfully different projected number over long periods.
