Sweep-in FD

✓ Last verified 14 Sep 2026
The short version A sweep-in FD automatically moves balance above a set threshold in your savings account into a fixed deposit for better interest, and sweeps it back automatically if you need to withdraw beyond your savings balance.

Rather than manually moving surplus savings-account balance into a separate FD, a sweep-in facility does it automatically once your balance crosses a set threshold - earning FD-level interest on the swept amount, while still allowing automatic reverse-sweep (breaking the FD, partially if needed) if you need to withdraw more than your regular savings balance covers. This is a genuinely useful middle ground for money that needs to stay reasonably liquid (see our article on emergency funds) while not sitting entirely idle at savings-account rates.
