Top-Up Health Cover

✓ Last verified 14 Sep 2026
The short version A top-up health policy provides additional coverage once expenses cross a specified deductible threshold - a cost-efficient way to boost your total health cover without paying for a much larger base policy.

Rather than upgrading an entire base policy to a much higher sum insured (often expensive), a top-up policy activates once expenses in a claim (or, for a "super top-up," across the year) cross a specified deductible - providing additional coverage for genuinely large hospitalizations at a lower incremental premium than a proportionally larger base policy would cost. This is a common, cost-efficient way to guard against a catastrophic medical expense while keeping day-to-day premium costs manageable.
