Virtual Payment Address (VPA)

✓ Last verified 14 Sep 2026
The short version A VPA (like yourname@bankupi) is a UPI ID that lets someone send you money without needing your actual bank account number or IFSC code - a layer of privacy and convenience over the underlying account.

Instead of sharing your full bank account number and IFSC code to receive a payment, a VPA acts as a simpler, memorable stand-in linked to your actual account behind the scenes. It's the "address" a payer enters in any UPI app to send you money - and because it doesn't expose your actual account details, it's also a small privacy layer over sharing full bank information with every person or business you transact with.
